
The calendar of wine-related activities gathers momentum and is now practically on a par with June 2019, both for professional and amateur events. Especially noteworthy are the countless popular activities in various towns in Catalonia, as well as the festival in Haro, where locals and visitors once again dress in white as they do every 29 June to take part in the Batalla del Vino (Battle of Wine).
These are some of the most prominent activities for wine lovers to enjoy in Spain in June, but remember that we update the calendar mid-month with new events.
2 June. The Valladolid store Majuelos Singulares (San Ignacio, 9) presents an international wine tasting with wines from France, Italy, Hungary, Greece and the USA. Time: 20:00 Price: €18 More information at info@majuelossingulares.com
2 and 9 June. In addition to her interesting activities for members, sommelier Pilar Cruces, creator of Lust for Wine, hosts a couple of activities this month in Burgos: On 2 June, at La Pícara Gastroteca (C. Sta. María, 2, Aranda de Duero), Pilar will present an introductory workshop on New World wines (20:15, €35), while on 9 June, the activity will focus on island wines at the Lust for Wine office (Plaza Alonso Martínez, 7A Oficina 57), (20:30, €45). 2, 9 and 28 June. After a two-year hiatus, Vila Viniteca in Barcelona (Agullers, 7) resumes tastings with several activities throughout this month. The first, on the 2nd, is a tasting of sparkling wines from around the world (20:00, €55), followed by an introduction to Bordeaux (9th, €65) and wines from Jerez (28th, €55). Tastings start at 20:00 or 20:30
2, 13, 16, 22, 23 and 27 June. Corpinnat, a vertical tasting of Baron de Chirel with Luis Hurtado de Amézaga, producer Marc Isart, Garnachas de Cebreros, seaside whites and new stars in the Ribeira Sacra. These are the six new events for June at Unión Española de Catadores in Madrid (Lope de Vega, 27). You can book a seat for any of them on the link above. 2 and 26 June. Lavinia wine bar presents a couple of events this month at its Moraleja Green venue in Madrid (Av. de Europa, 13). The first is a masterclass on single varietal winess (2nd, €40) while on the 26th they will celebrate the night of San Juan with 15 Spanish producers such as Alvar de Dios, Albamar, Arrayán, Tentenublo, Vidal Soblechero, Inca Torremilanos, Celler de Les Aus and Mas Asturias, among others. 3 June. The Association of Friends of the Vine and Wine concludes the celebration of its 22nd anniversary, delayed a couple of years because of the pandemic, with an informal tasting-cocktail session charting the history of the association and its evolution up to the present day. There will be bubbles, unusual grapes, wines with high scores at good prices and a few surprises. Time: 19:15 C/ Francisco Largo Caballero, 44 (Agrupación PSOE, Alcobendas). Price: €15
4 June. The Flowering Festival returns to the Finca Viladellops estate in Sant Miquel de Olèrdola (Barcelona) with the participation of producers such as Mas Bertran, Rovellats, Parés Baltà, Colet, La Xarmada, Familia Torres, Mastinell, Pinord, Torreblanca, Viladellops, Torre del Veguer, Puig Batet and Hospital de Sitges. In addition to a space with wines and cavas made by producers grouped in La Carretera del Vi, there will be wine tourism activities, food, chill out areas and music. 4 June. The Fira del Vi Solidari (Charity Wine Festival) is born under the auspices of a group of Catalan producers who want to support medical investigations to fight against children’s cancer through the charity Obra Social de Sant Joan de Deu. During the festival, which will be held in Bancal d’Alegno del Masroig, participants will be able to taste the wines of participating wineries and purchase a charity wine made by Orto Vins, Coca i Fitó, Dit Celler, Cellers Can Blau y Celler Masroig with labels designed by local students. Alvaro Palacios is the guest producer. There will be workshops for kids, live music raffles and a charity dinner. Click on the link above for more information.
4 June. The town council and the wineries of Gratallops host a new edition of Tastets de Gratallops, an opportunity to taste wines from this DOQ Priorat village, as well as other local products. Among the wineries at the tasting will be Clos de L'Obac, Clos Figueras, Clos Mogador, Mas Igneus, Meritxell Pallejà and Trossos del Priorat. Time: 19:00 - 23:00 Price: €25
4-5 June. The Rock & Wine Fair returns to Platja d'Aro (Plaça del Mil.lenari) on the Costa Brava with the presence of 33 producers from 13 appellations across the country and different food outlets. In addition to tasting the wines to the beat of rock music, attendees will also be able to buy all the wines on show. Time: 12:00 - 23:00
4-5 June. Arrels del Vi fair hosts its 14th edition in San Martí d’Empuries (Parc Creuet) in the Empordà region with a chance to taste wines made by 22 local producers such as Vinyes d’Olivardots, Martí Fabra, Perelada, Terra Remota or the Espolla cooperative, among others. Tickets cost €22 and include a Riedel glass, a guided tour of the Ruïnes d’Empúries and a tasting of “Mulsum” (Roman wine), children’s workshops and tapas made with local L’Escala anchovies. 5 June. Rosé Wine Day returns to San Martín de Unx in Navarra with wine tastings, local crafts, music and walks through the the village. The only activity that requires booking is the popular lunch at the pelota court.
6 June. More than 40 producers, merchants and Regulatory Boards will be present at the Verema Experience in Madrid (Hotel The Westin Palace) where there will also be guided tastings by Ramon Bilbao's Spanish Wine Academy, DO Campo de Borja, Vermut with Francois Monti and DO Ribera del Duero. Opening hours: 11:00-21:00. Price: €20 online and €30 if you buy your ticket at the door. On 27 June there will also be a Verema Experience in Santander.
6 June. The EnoAula training centre in Barcelona presents a seminar by Master of Wine Pedro Ballesteros, who will address the geographical, cultural and historical factors that have shaped Spanish wine. A liquid review of the country's history, which Ballesteros has compiled in his book Comprender el Vino (Understanding Wine), which will be on sale on the day for €15. Fintan Kerr of Wine Cuentista opens his fridge to share a few bottles with other wine lovers at Aguita Vins in Barcelona (Volta d'en Colomines, 2) that will include six wines: Eulogio Pomares Carralcabo Albarino 2018, Gini Salvarenza 2016, Boekenhootskloof Semillon 2016, Cantina dei Produttori Caremma 2017, Caroline Morey Chassagne Montrachet Rouge 2016 y Jacky Blot Mi-Pente 2016. 10-11 June. The Orígenes Gastronómicos festival, which seeks to showcase the work of artisans focusing on a sustainable future, is being held at the Palauet in Teià (Barcelona). Ingredients from ten artisan producers will be used to prepare a menu paired with wines selected by Quim Vila, cocktails, live music, creative workshops and talks on food and sustainability. 10-12 June. Temps de Vi in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona) is a festival meant to expand wine culture and champion Catalan wines. This year, Temps de vi returns to the town’s Rambla with the presence of a handful of wineries who will present their wines at tastings in the village and on boats. From 15 June. The second edition of Corpinnat Gastronomic Festival, which will be held at the group's wineries, will offer four dozen dinners prepared at the kitchens of renowned restaurants such as Vicus, Vilagut, Nit de Tramuntana, Plaça del Vi, Arrels del Penedès, La Maison Secall, Citrus del Tancat and Fishhh, paired with long-aged sparkling wines. 15, 16, 22 and 30 June. Wine bar Celler El Tros in Barcelona (Mallorca, 303) presents the following activities this month: tasting in English of wines made with the Elbling variety (15th, 20:00, €25), cheesecake by Jon Cake paired with wines from Costers del Segre (16th, 19:30, €35), Priorat vs Montsant (22nd, 19:00) and cheese from northern Spain with wines by Menade (30th, 20:00 €25 €)
16 and 28 June. Enoteca Barolo in Madrid (Príncipe de Vergara, 211) launches this month a special set of Burgundy village tastings that will start with five wines from Gevrey (€60). On the 28th, Ibérico cured meats from Guijuelo and Bierzo will be served paired with champagne, sherries, white and red wines (€45). Time: 20:30
17 de junio. The Wine Studio in Madrid (Marqués de la Ensenada, 16) has invited Amaya Cervera to lead a tasting about Bierzo. 17 June. The association Mercats amb DO in Barcelona presents a tasting of six Can Rafols dels Caus wines served with six food products from the market stalls. Place: Galeria Villa del Arte, c/ de la Palla, 10. Time: 19:00 Price: €35
17-18 June. Nena Daconte and Marilia Ella Baila Sola are the female voices who will star on the second edition of “Suena Verano con Diamante” at Bodegas Franco-Españolas in Logroño. From 19:30 doors will open to enjoy thematic of Sideral Djs with a glass of wine Diamante. The concerts start at 22:00. Price: €25 per day
18 June. Six wineries in Haro open their doors for the Haro Station District Experience. Tickets are already sold out but it includes tastings, musical performances, an art exhibition and activities such as disgorging and racking. The day will conclude with a tasting led Josep Pitu Roca, from the restaurant El Celler de Can Roca, presenting different vintages from different decades. Time: 11:00 – 19:00
18-19 June. Barberà de la Conca (Tarragona) hosts a new edition of Festa del Trepat with a popular breakfast and snack, vineyard tours, an art and wine show, children's activities and music. Check the full programme on the link above.
18-19 June. A Emoción dos Viños is a wine fair featuring small producers from Galicia and wine regions of Spain and Portugal who try to convey a sense of place in their wines and respect for their vineyards and their customers. It is a great opportunity to meet 90 winegrowers who are committed to quality artisan wines such as Fazenda Augalevada, Cume do Avia, Fedellos do Couto, Pedro Mendez, or Lagar de Sabariz among others from Galicia as well as from other areas such as El Hato and El Garabato, Celler Pardas, Vinícola Taro, Meridiano Perdido, Titerot Akaet, Viña Zorzal, Bernardo Ortega or Oxer Wine. The event will take place in the Oia Monastery (Pontevedra). Time: 11:00-14:00 and 17:00-21:00 on Saturday and 11:00-14:00 on Sunday. 19-20 June. A group of producers like Les Freses, Casa Agrícola de Pepe Mendoza, Bruno Murciano, Celler del Roure, Gratias, Cal Tiques, Carlania or Vinos del Viento, among others, will take part in the third edition of Mostra Internacional de Vins Singulars i de Poble in Jesús Pobre (Denia, Alicante), an event which champions environmentally friendly wines and the recovery of local grape varieties. 20 June. Restaurant Tohqa in El Puerto de Santa María moves for the day to the vineyard to host Macharnudo Sideral, tasting by the vines the various plots of this iconic sherry vineyard (Valdespino, De La Riva, Blázquez, La Escribana, Botaína, Sabel and El Castillo del Majuelo) followed by a dinner prepared by the brothers Edu and Juan Pérez. 20 and 27 June. The Salón de las Estrellas presents at Palacio de Neptuno in Madrid the wines with the best value for money, according to the Peñín Guide. Also, and as a novelty this year, the first Salón Selección de la Guía will be held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Hotel Santa Catalina) on the 27th.
21 June. Tastings also return to Vila Viniteca in Madrid (General Díaz Porlier, 45) starting with a set of Mediterranean wines: Domaine d'Eole Rosé 2021, Detrás de la Casa Monastrell 2016, Casa Castillo Pie Franco 2019, Sot Lefriec 2017, Clos d'Agon 2018, L'Equilibrista Garnatza 2016, Tenuta delle Terre Nere Rosso 2020 and Le Vieux Donjon Châteanuneuf-du-Pape 2019. 25 June. Taberna der Guerrita in Sanlúcar de Barrameda hosts every year a set of summer tastings with Spanish and international figures. This year they kick off with a tasting led by Armando Guerra with special wines "from six regions of the world with unusual wines". 25 June. For the third consecutive year Pruno Day aims to get people to enjoy wine, music, nature and gastronomy. Among the activities are guided tours and tastings on the vineyard, live music and food trucks. Place: Finca Villacreces, Quintanilla de Onésimo (Valladolid). Time: 10:45-19:15 (over 18s only). 28 June. The old world and the new world will be the protagonists of the tasting at Umami Gijón (Av. Rufo Rendueles, 8) with the following wines: Rosi Schuster Aus den Dorfern 2019, Catena D.V Historico Blend 2019, El Enemigo, Chardonnay 2019, Santa Digna Sauvignon Blanc 2021, Enate 2-3-4 Chardonnay 2021 and José Pariente Sauvignon Blanc 2021. The tasting, which will be followed by some tapas, will be hosted by a sommelier from Coalla. Time: 20:00 Price: €30
28 June. Artean Wines training centre in Bilbao has invited Pablo Orio, winemaker at Bodegas Muga and Master of Wine student, to present a tasting of Chilean wines, showing their relevance worldwide. Eight wines from different areas of the country will be tasted. Time: 18:30-20:30 Price: €70 ( €65 for members).
29 June. After a two-year break due to Covid-19, Haro is once again holding its traditional Wine Battle, an event in which thousands of people hike up to the San Felices fields, on the outskirts of the town in La Rioja, to throw a massive quantity of wine at each other. The Wine Battle, which begins with a mass and ends with a communal lunch, attracts thousands of young people from the region but also foreign tourists, especially from Australia and the USA.
