Harvest Festival in Jerez

The Jerez Harvest Festival begins at Jerez Cathedral with the grape-stomping ceremony and continues with a host of wine-related activities, such as guided tours of the Hudo and Paez Lobato cooperages, the Team Blind Tasting Challenge organised by the Jerez Wine Society on the 10th, masterclasses featuring wines from some of the city’s leading wineries at the Alcázar, a tasting of still wines from the Tierra de Cádiz PGI and grass-fed wines from Tierra Albariza, talks, flamenco, poetry, art exhibitions, concerts, a children’s pouring competition, amongst many other activities. Harvest Festival in Aranda de Duero

The Aranda de Duero Harvest Festival celebrates its ninth edition with activities such as Ribera del Duero wine tastings (a charity tasting and a premium tasting, the latter led by sommelier Diego González), tastings at the stalls of nine wineries, as well as local cuisine. There will also be free shows and concerts featuring artists such as Kiko Veneno, La Frontera, Drugos, Los Pichas, María de la Flor and DJs.

Harvest in Montilla

Bodegas Pérez Barquero and the Plaza de la Merced will be the venues for the most traditional events of the 71st edition of this festival, such as the grape-treading and the offering to the Virgen de las Viñas. In addition, more than 20 wines from Montilla will be presented in the Wine Tunnel. Furthermore, the micro-theatre production *La Vendimia Teatral* will transform the Bodegas Alvear into a live stage, which will also host the town’s jazz festival on the 11th and 12th.

Harvest Festival in Ábalos

The wineries Real Divisa, Solana de Ramírez, Ruiz del Portal, Fernández Eguíluz, Solabal, Abeica and Puelles present the 29th Ábalos Open Day. The women's association, which is behind the event, has organised cultural visits, grape treading in an open-air traditional wine press, tastings, visits to wineries, a tourist train, a traditional and artisan food market, stalls selling sandwiches and batukada.

Cava Harvest

Sixteen wineries from the Penedès and Conca de Barberà regions are celebrating La Verema del Cava with a variety of activities, including walks through the vineyards, a country-style breakfast amongst the vines, dinners under the stars and grape treading. Live Empordà

The Empordà Wine Route, in partnership with a number of local wineries, is organising various activities this month, such as exploring the heritage of post-war bunkers with architect Adela Geli and La Cooperativa de Garriguella, a wine tasting at Clos d’Agón, Martín Faixó, Mas Oller and Espelt, amongst others; a walk and tasting in the vineyards of Paraje Olivardots; horse-riding tours with Clos de Basella; a wine-tasting cruise along the Costa Brava; golf and wine; and a variety of food and wine pairings.

Laura Rodríguez, sommelier at Tiempos Líquidos, presents a tasting featuring various wine-producing islands from around the world, with soils, climates and grape varieties that are virtually unknown outside those regions. These are vineyards that have remained isolated for generations and, above all, people who chose to preserve them when it might have been easier to abandon them. Can isolation become one of the greatest sources of identity?

Txakoli K5 – Tasting and snacks

Andrea, a wine maker at the K5 estate in Aia, near Getaria, will be at Calcáreo to present a range of wines and vintages from their production. She will also explain how Hondarrabi Zuri evolves over the years, how the climate and the hillside on which the vineyard is situated influence each vintage, and why this Atlantic txakoli completely debunks the myth that ‘it must be drunk in the same year’.

Blind tasting competition of Sherry Wines

The seventh Team Blind Wine Tasting Challenge, organised by the Jerez Wine Society, will take place between 4 and 12 September. The finalists will compete for the title on the morning of the 12th. Each team will taste seven wines produced in the province of Cádiz. The top three teams will receive prizes of €400, €200 and €50 worth of wine, respectively.

White unfortified wines from Jerez with Alvaro Ribalta MW

When we think of Jerez, we tend to think of fortified wines. But there is another side to this region: unfortified white wines that seek to express the purity of the grape, the soil and the unique character of the Marco. Grape stomping festival at Bodegas Lecea

Bodegas Lecea in San Asensio holds its own grape harvest with a traditional grape treading in the stone lagar of its facilities in the village's winery district, followed on Sunday by the pressing of the grapes. There will also be visits to the 16th century cellars, tasting of Lecea wines, lunch at the winery, local artisans' market and a 4x4 ride through the vineyards.

The DO Montsant celebrates its 25th anniversary with a festival featuring 30 wineries, including Bell Cros, Celler Capçanes, Celler Cedó Anguera, Celler Comunica, Celler Cooperatiu Cornudella, Masroig, Coca i Fitó, Sileo, Cooperativa Falset Marçà, Dosterras, Orto Vins and Vinyes Domènec.
