Summer is already here and wine events tend to be more fun-oriented with festivals focusing on music and wine intertwined with other events. Winelovers working in July as well as those on holiday will have many opportunities to enjoy at least one of the activities taking place across the country this month. Until 31 July. The third edition of CORPINNAT Gastronomic Festival, to be held in the group's cellars, features over 30 dinners prepared by the kitchens of renowned restaurants in Catalonia such as Paco Pérez, Casamar, L'Aliança d'Anglès, Can Valls, El Jingoler and La Taverna del Ciri, paired with long-aged sparkling wines. 1- 2 July. Barberà de la Conca (Tarragona) hosts a new edition of Festa del Trepat with a popular breakfast and afternoon snack, visits to the vineyards, an art and wine exhibition, children's activities and music. Check the full programme on the link.
1, 6, 13 and 15 July. In Sanlúcar, Vinoteca Dealbariza presents several tastings this month: "Sex and wine in history" with Manuel Parodi (1 July, 13:00), paired tasting of Bodegas Campestral (6 July, 21:00), paired tasting of Baelo Claudia Wines (13 July, 21:00) and wine and history tasting of "Illustrious Traitors" with Manuel Parodi (15 July, 13:00). 3 July. The Requena Foundation presents in Madrid the report "Wine in Requena" by Rafael del Rey, director of the Spanish Observatory of Wine Markets. Our editor, Amaya Cervera, and communicator Santi Rivas will also be present at the event, giving their point of view on the area from the perspective of varieties and producers, and the consumer, respectively. The meeting will be hosted by Pilar Cavero and there will also be a tasting of local wines and cavas and a cocktail by Nino Redurello. Venue: Hotel Thompson (Pl. del Carmen)
4, 13 and 20 July. Celler El Tros in Barcelona presents several activities this month. The first, on the 4th, is a presentation of Costers del Segre (19:30, €10) while on the 13th Raul Bobet will lead a paired dinner with Castell d'Encus wines. Time: (21:00, 48 €). On the 20th, there will a tasting of cheese and wines from Lagravera followed by a light dinner (20:00, €38).
4 and 18 July. Vinology wine bar in Madrid (Conde de Aranda, 11) presents a couple of interesting tastings this month. The first, on the 4th, will be about Argentinian wines and will be presented by Argentinian sommeliers Pilar Oltra, founder of Vinology, and Ignacio Mesplés. The second, on the 18th, will be led by Pilar with the presence of Almudena Alberca, Master of Wine and technical director of Entrecanales Domecq e Hijos. Each wine will be accompanied by a snack. 5 July. As part of its summer tasting season, Pura Cepa restaurant in Murcia (Plaza Cristo del Rescate) presents a session of fresh red wines. Time: 21:00 Price: €45.
6 July. Vinicia store in Lleida (Humbert Torres, 19) presents a tasting of Perelada wines with brand ambassador Diego González. Time: 21:00 Price: €25 Reservations by phone on 973 247554
6 and 13 July. The store Vila Viniteca in Barcelona (Agullers, 7) hosts this month a couple of tastings for wine lovers: the wines of Can Rafols dels Caus, by the recently deceased Carlos Esteva ( 6th, 39 €) and the wines of Tomas Cusiné at the Outlet de Vinos (13th, c/Villarroel 209). Time: 20:30 -22:30 Price: €39 each event.
6, 13 and 20 July. Restaurant Cal Feru in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia presents the third edition of Territori Efervescent in Patio de Can Guineu, with three tastings to showcase the range of sparkling wines produced both nationally and internationally. The first session will be a tasting of 11 long-aged Corpinnats from different vintages (6th), the second will be entitled "Innovation in the Penedès" and will taste Cavas, Clàssics Penedès and sparkling wines without DO made using the traditional method that are new (13th). The programme ends with a tasting of international sparkling wines (20th). Time: 20:00. Price: €35 per session, €80 for all three.
6, 13 and 27 July. Bodegas Franco-Españolas opens the doors of its winery in Logroño to screen four films in original version with subtitles preceded by a gastrobar, a wine bar and music. The films screened are: Night Flight From Moscow, Belle Époque and The Big Lebowski. Tickets cost €5 but there is also a special pack of two tickets + 1 bottle of Bordón Crianza or Talla de Diamante for €15. Time: 19:30 The screening will start at sunset.
7-9 July. Vilafranca del Penedès welcomes the summer with the Vijazz Penedès festival, a fusion of wine and cava with the best national and international jazz. In addition to listening to good music, the Barcelona town will be hosting the Wine and Cava Fair, with about twenty wineries from the DO Penedès, DO Cava and Corpinnat and a dozen tastings and pairings. 8 July. If you happen to be in the Segrià area (Lleida), Lagravera Fest hosts a festival at its Viña Nuria estate. The ticket includes: access to all the concerts, screen-printed souvenir glass, the first Ónra wine of the festival and optional visit on Saturday with a tasting of two wines. 8 July. Vin La Vie Vinos de Madrid (Ibiza market, local 8) hosts a free tasting this month with Pincelo, the oldest winery in Ribeira Sacra. Time: 13:00.
11,13 and 18 July. Enoteca Barolo (Príncipe de Vergara, 211) in Madrid presents several activities this month including a tasting of champagnes blanc de blancs ( 11th, €55), finos and manzanillas accompanied by Ibérico cured meats (13th, €50) and a dim sum dinner with chef Naumi Uemura (Price: €60). 14 July. The winery Alta Alella (Camí baix de Tiana, s/n) celebrates 10 years of wine tourism with a festival featuring DJ Irina Flake, DJ Escarlata and Diddi DJ with culinary treats by chef Mique Antoja and Foodlona and a wine and cava bar. Time: 19:00 - 23:00 Price: € 18
15 July. Ochoa winery in Olite (Navarra) presents Tardeos de Verano, with live music by Slow Jazz Trio and two drinks. Time: 19:00 - 22:00 Price: €6
15, 20, 21, 22, 26, 28 and 29 July. La Taberna der Guerrita in Sanlúcar de Barrameda hosts, as it does every year, a series of summer tastings with the participation of Spanish wine figures. They will take place in the back room of the tavern and will be led by Delia Baeza, from La Fisna (15 July), Florent Mercier, Champagne distributor (20 July), Juan Muñoz from Moclinejo in the Axarquía (21 July), Carlos López de Lacalle from Artadi (22 July), Bernat Voraviu from Ithaca Wines (26 July), Luis Seabra from Portugal (28 July) and sommelier Miguel Llanos (29 July). 16-17 July. Producers Joan Ramon Escoda and Laureano Serres are back with the H2O Vegetal fair, a festival with natural producers from different wine regions. It will take place at Celler Escoda-Sanahuja, in Prenafeta (Tarragona). For more information, call 659 478 198
20 July. Artean Wines training centre in Bilbao presents a tasting of eight Garnachas from different wine regions of the world. It will take place at Pangea, in Plaza de Indautxu.. Time: 18:30-20:30 Price: €60
20-22 July. Barranco Fest is a festival held in Fitero (Navarra) with music, talks and gastronomy, with the active participation of Viña Zorzal Wines, which will arrange a walk through its centenary vineyard La del Pulpo (22nd, 11:00). The full line-up is yet to be confirmed, but we know that Isabel García will also be there with her marcs from the Liébana Valley in Cantabria. Price: €28.08
21-23 July. The sixth edition of Rioja Alavesa-Euskadi En Torno a la Mesa moves this year to Elvillar, where a handful of Rioja Alavesa producers will present their wines. There will also be stalls selling local products, tastings, music, a Sunset&Dine dinner with live music (€48) and a hiking route through Elvillar, Kripan and Lantziego. There will be a free bus service from Laguardia.
Wednesdays in July. The terrace of the winery Martín Codax in the Salnés Valley hosts a new edition of As Tardes do Atlántico, where various chefs present Galician products accompanied with Martín Códax wines. 29-31 July. Wine and gastronomy will be present at the 17th Ribeira Sacra Festival, which will feature performances by groups such as dEUS, Morgan, Jimena Amarillo, and El Pastor Eléctrico, among others. The festival will take place in the towns of Monforte de Lemos, Pobra do Brollón and at the Regina Viarum winery in Donde. The shows will be combined with catamaran trips on the river Sil, guided tours and tastings in local wineries. Price: from €28.
