With the Christmas festivities not yet behind us —Spaniards celebrate the Three Wise Men Day on the 6th—, January begins quietly in terms of wine tastings with few events scheduled for the first fortnight of the month. Please come back to this page for further updates —we will add new tastings as they are published.
10 January. Once again, the Vila Viniteca wine tasting in pairs competition is back, and this year it will be held at the Llotja de Mar in Barcelona on 10 March. Anyone hoping to grab one of the coveted seats in the competition, which offers €40,000 in prizes, will have to sign up on 10 January from 10:00 a.m. Remember that places usually sell out in a matter of minutes!
11, 16, 18, 25 and 26 January. The Vila Viniteca shops present several tastings this month. At the Barcelona shop (Agullers, 7) the agenda starts with a tasting of wines from prestigious wineries in Ribera del Duero (11th, €89) and continues with wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape (16th, €65), a presentation of Mas Doix by Valentí Llagostera (18th, €39, Outlet de Vinos) and wines from Chablis (26th, €55). The following tastings are held in Madrid (General Díaz Porlier 45): powerful whites from six countries ( 11th, €89) and supple red wines from seven countries (25th, €59). 13, 20 and 27 January. Among the activities organised by the Vin La Vie Vinos shop in Madrid (Mercado de Ibiza, stall 8) we highlight the following: tasting of Mexican wines ( 13th, €18), vertical tasting of Viña Tondonia (20th, €95) and international white wines (27th, €15). 15 January. The Association of Navarra Sommeliers presents a tasting of Dão wines by Cristina Tierno with nine wines of different styles produced in this area in the north of Portugal. Time: 19:00 Price: €75. After the tasting you can stay for dinner at a cost of €30 pax. payable on site. The activity is held at the Hotel Don Carlos in Huarte, just outside Pamplona. 17, 18, 25, 27 and 28 January. This month, sommelier Pilar Cruces of Lust for Wine presents several activities in different locations. "Bowie's whites" is the first tasting, on the 17th, and will take place in Madrid at Restaurante Clarita (Corredera Baja de San Pablo, 19) at 21:00. On the 18th at 20:30, Pilar will be at Lust for Wine in Burgos (Pl. de Alonso-Martínez, 7A Ofi. 57) with a presentation focused on Germany (€45) that will be replicated at La Picara Gastroteca in Aranda de Duero (C. Sta. María, 2) on the 25th (€40). For the 27th and 28th, at Art Terra in Burgos (Av. Cantabria, 49) Pilar has prepared the activity Wines with Sound: Painting and the Emotions of Life. Price: €34. 17, 30 and 31 January. The Unión Española de Catadores in Madrid (Lope de Vega, 27) presents three tastings this month. In the first one, on the 17th, there will be a selection of wines from the new 2022 wines chosen by Luis Vida; the second one, on the 30th, the producer Josep Maria Pujol-Busquets from Alta Alella will be present and in the last one, on the 31st, Fernando Gurucharri presents Rioja wines recommended by Decanter magazine. 19 January. The Regulatory Council of DO Navarra hosts the third edition of #WineCom, the International Congress on Communication and Wine, in Pamplona. Under the theme "Wine, an inexhaustible source of communication", topics to be discussed include the revolution in audiovisual content, the need to reach out to consumers and new advertising trends. The conference will kick off with Santi Rivas and speakers include Beatriz Machado, Marketing & Tourism Director at Niepoort (Portugal) and Marta Clot, content creator and sommelier, among others. 23 January. The training centre Artean Wines presents a tasting of South African wines at Espacio Pangea in Bilbao (Plaza Indautxu) led by Juancho Asenjo, an expert on South African wines. Time: 18:30 - 20:30 Price: € 75 (discounts for members)

24 January. Tiempos Líquidos is a new wine bar and store in Burgos (San Gil, 5), led by two experienced sommeliers, Diego González and Laura Rodríguez. They have scheduled their first tasting with Paco Berciano, who will present a session called Mentors and Protégés with six wines from different regions and producters. 26 January. El Buen Gusto Vinos wine store in Valladolid (Manuel Silvela, 2) presents a tasting with Tomás Postigo, one of the most veteran winemakers in Ribera del Duero. The producer will bring two vintages of his 3er Año (2020 and 2021), Rebollo 2017 and two vintages of Blanco Fermentado en Barrica (2015 and 2021). 29 January. This year's first Verema Experience takes place at the Hotel Victoria Gran Meliá in Mallorca with a trade show and tutored tastings. Time: 12:00-15:00 and 17:00-21:00 Price: €20 online (€30 at the door)
29-31 January. The congress Madrid Fusión returns to Ifema with three days of presentations about gastronomy and wine as well as talks and tastings with wine professionals such as Álvaro Ribalta, Moha Benabdallah, Almudena Alberca, Jaime Suárez, Cristina Forner, Juancho Asenjo, Pedro Ballesteros or Agustín Trapero, among others. Entrance to the congress: €100 per day or €250 for three days. The The Wine Edition tastings cost €30 and €40 each on top of the congress entrance.
30-31 January. At the store in Príncipe de Vergara 211 in Madrid, Enoteca Barolo starts the year with a tasting of Port Tawny (Graham’s 10 years, Kopke 20, Rozès 20, RP Ramos Pinto 30, Barros 40 and Quinta do Vallado 40) followed the next day by a tasting of cheese from Switzerland and Saboie, with wines of the world.
