Congratulations to Carlos and Juanjo Cerdán of Bodega Cerrón! They have been awarded The Old Vine Hero Next Generation Award 2025 for their work revitalising old vine vineyards in their native Fuente Álamo, located in DO Jumilla, southeast Spain.
Another Spaniard, Marta Juega, took home The Old Vine Hero Award 2025 for Old Vines, New Technology. As the founder of PI Concept, a company that provides tailored, data-driven sustainability solutions for the wine industry, she was recognised for her development of PI Analytics. According to the judges, this technology “has demonstrated measurable impact in old vine vineyards by improving water retention, reducing waste, and enhancing soil health.”
This year, 60 qualifying nominations were received from individuals and organisations across 14 countries. A panel of 17 international old vine specialists narrowed these down to 18 finalists in five categories -Next Generation, Best Viticulture Team, Communication & Education, Research and Old Vines, New Technology. Spain was well represented among the finalists with the group of wineries under Alma Carraovejas, Nacho León, a winegrower from Bierzo, Viticultura Viva from Navarra, and Parés Baltà from the Penedès region. Over two weeks, the finalists garnered nearly 6,000 individual votes from the global wine community and beyond.
Each category winner of The Old Vine Hero Awards 2025 receives a ticket to the inaugural day of The Old Vine Conference 2025 in California. The winners’ webinar is now available to watch in full on The Old Vine Conference YouTube channel.
