It may be hard to believe given that Godello is Valdeorras’s better-known style, but reds used to be the region’s most distinctive wines not so long ago. In fact, this red was responsible for putting Valdesil on the wine map. It combines Mencia’s distinctive forest fruit and spicy notes with other herbaceous aromas from the region's Atlantic climate. This is a light, savoury red with well-integrated tannins and fresh herbaceous notes. Good value. 88 points
