This is the first, fabulous vintage of Riscal’s new top-of-the-range white in Rueda, although it hasn’t been released under this appellation but as VT Castilla y León. Grapes were sourced from two extremely old vineyards in Segovia and the wine aged in foudres and 600-litre oak barrels. Scrubland, white candied fruit, wet stone and a hint of white pepper on the nose. The palate is rich and big, reflecting the concentration found in very old vines, but it displays bright acidity and balance. 17.0 points
