With 30% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. The Bordeaux grape is only allowed in Rioja on an experimental basis but Riscal has been growing it since the 19th century —it played an important role in their classic Reserva Médoc reds. Aging in French oak barrels is the norm now. The excellent 2010 vintage displays the fruit expression (blackcurrant, undergrowth) of Cabernet which perfectly matches Tempranillo. This is a deep, well-structured red with fine tannins that will age beautifully. 94 points
