Álvaro Loza is a new name to follow in Rioja. Even if he is starting modestly and with just a bunch of bottles, the depth and energy in this wine are truly impressive. He has relied on four small plots located in Haro and Labastida that used to be grown by his grandfather to build a fragrant, fruit-driven red with cherry and blueberries aromas. On the palate it starts silky, then turns powerful and energetic leading to a long finish with liquorice notes. Awesome exploration of terroir! 94 points
