The haunting label and the Edgar Allan Poe quote ("There is no beauty without some strangeness") set the tone for Oxer Bastegieta's new txakoli, a tribute to the district of Kortezubi not far from the coast, where his father was born and where he grows his vines. Aged for six months in foudre, malolactic fermentation adds a rare unctuousness for this area, yet the acidity and the saline, mineral notes are undoubtedly present. The wine's purity and length are really breathtaking. 17.5 points
