This wine has radically changed the perception of Airén, Spain’s most vilified, widely grown white variety. Grapes are sourced from the family’s oldest, ungrafted vineyard planted in 1950 on stony soils. Using natural yeasts and eschewing extrinsic aromas, López Montero produces an unctuous wine with moderate alcohol, depth and lovely briny notes leading to a long finish. It is aged in tinaja (clay jars) for four months plus six months with its lees in stainless steel tanks. 93 points
