Passion for Spanish wine

ADDRESSES

Since it opened in mid-2013, Bar Brutal has become the trendiest hotspot in Barcelona to enjoy natural and artisan wines. The place is actually two different premises with separate entrances, but they are interconnected: a wine store that resembles the traditional shops of yesteryear, known as bodegas, (Can Cisca, Carrer de la Princesa, 14) and a very lively wine bar, especially at night.

The project is the brainchild of Joan Valencia, owner of wine distribution company Cuvée 3000, who seamlessly combines his new love for natural wines with the sale of a considerable number of conventional labels; the Colombo brothers, who run the Italian restaurant Xemei; and natural winemaker Joan Ramón Escoda, of Celler Escoda Sanahuja in the Conca de Barberà region, who crafts highly recommended wines.

The wine list is varied, with a good selection of foreign labels from key natural winemakers. It goes beyond no-sulphur wines and includes wines from organic or biodynamic producers who practice a non-interventionist approach in the winery. The Mediterranean food, made with quality raw materials, is perfectly suited to the style of Bar Brutal. A.C.
