Wine tastings in November 2024

As we do every month, we compile some of the most interesting events taking place in Spain. This month we highlight large fairs such as Salón Peñín in Madrid, with more than 400 exhibitors, and other smaller ones, such as the Muestra de Vinos Mediterráneos La Odisea in Cocentaina, Off the Record in Madrid, the independent fair Castes in Vilagarcía de Arousa focused on wines from Galicia and beyond, or Sherry Week, with activities all over the world.

31 October-2 November. Bodegas Franco Españolas in Logroño hosts Hallowine, a festival in among vats and barrels with an Escape Room dedicated to Hathor, perhaps the most unknown goddess of wine. Time: 18:30 and 22:00 Price: €32. The entrance includes two glasses of Bordón or Diamante.

31 October-3 November. The town of Gandesa, in Catalonia's Terra Alta, celebrates its 37th Festa del Vi with a calendar of activities which includes a showroom with wines from some 20 producers, a tasting of wines made from the Morello variety, and Garnacha Blanca Night, with around 30 wines that will be served in the Sala de Premses building owned by the Cooperative of Gandesa with food served by l’Antic Molí (1* Michelin). As well as live music, there will be tastings, a popular dinner with clotxa, a traditional meal prepared by local farmers and children’s activities. Price varies depending on the activity.

1-2 November. Femenino y Singular are two days of music and wine to be held at the Centro de la Cultura del Rioja in Logroño, with the presence of three women winemakers. On the 1st, Bodegas Montecarlo will be there (13:00) with the singer María de Juan and Bárbara Palacios, from Barbarot with Müsgo (19:15). On the 2nd at 13:00, María de la Flor will perform and Bodegas Valdemar will present its wines. Price: €15

4 November. The tenth edition of the Salón de las Bodegas del siglo XXI brings together 40 producers from various regions at the Hotel VP Plaza España Design in Madrid. Opening hours: 12:00-15:00 and 17:00-20:30 Registration at the link above.

4-10 November. Sherry Week celebrates a whole week dedicated to sherry wines with hundreds of events in different cities around the world. You can check the full programme at the link above.

4 and 11 November. The Verema Experience visits Seville and Barcelona this month, with showrooms at hotels Majestic and Alfonso XIII, respectively. As well as the showroom with tasting tables manned by producers and regulatory boards, there will be themed tastings with several producers and appellations. Check the link for information on each city. Opening hours: 12:00-15:00 and 17:00—21:00 Price: from €20

4, 18 and 28 November. The Centre for Rioja Wine Culture in Logroño (Mercaderes, 9) presents the following activities this month: Óscar Tobía's wines for cellaring, the value of time ( 4th, €25), new trends in wine, with Sonia Molero (18th, €25) and Ximénez Spínola, the guardians of Pedro Ximénez (28th, €35). 4 and 25 November. The Association of Sommeliers of Navarra presents a couple of tastings this month. In the first one, Telmo Rodríguez will talk about the villages and landscapes of the Sonsierra mountains in Rioja with the following wines: Remelluri Blanco 2021, Lindes de Remelluri Salinillas 2020 and Lindes Ábalos 2020, Grandes Lindes de San Vicente Jesusa Areca 2020, Tabuérniga and Gran Vino de Remelluri 2020. On the 25th Marta Casas from Parès Baltá will be presenting her biodynamic wines and cavas. Time: 19:00 Price: €60 After Telmo's tasting there will be a dinner at the Don Carlos Hotel, on the outskirts of Pamplona (€30).

5 and 7 November. La Caníbal in Madrid (Argumosa, 28) presents two very interesting tastings this month. The first, led by Los Generosos, explores Domecq's imprint and the reinterpretation of its wines by the wineries that took the baton from brands such as Fino La Ina, Oloroso Río Viejo and the Amontillados Botaina and 51-1ª. Time: 17:30 Price: €35 On the 7th, Luis Pedro, winemaker at Quinta La Carolina in Portugal and Ana Osorio, Nieeport's ambassador in Spain, present a tasting of Douro wines. Time: 17:45 Price: €25.

6, 7, 14, 15, 21, 26 and 28 November. Vila Viniteca presents several tastings this month. In Barcelona there will be two tastings of sherry wines (6th and 7th, €69 and €59), Catalan native varieties (14th, €59), Gamay and Beaujolais crus (21st, €59), Catalan sparkling wines (26th, €69) and an introduction to Italian wines (28th, €79). In Madrid, the agenda starts with Muchada-Léclapart wines (15th, €49), Cabernet Sauvignon wines (21st, €69) and Paul Jaboulet Aîné wines (28th, €75). 7 November. La Finca Grand Café at Lavinia in Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid) presents this month a tasting of great wines from Spain, with bottles such as 904, Mauro VS, Les Terrasses, San Román or Corullón. Time: 19:00 - 21:00 Price: €75

7-17 November y 27-1 November. Film and wine festival Most 2024 hosts its 13th edition in two locations. The first will take place at the Auditorium of the renovated Viniseum in Vilafranca del Penedès and the second in Priorat. Both will show wine-related films and documentaries, in some cases at several wineries in the Penedès, and there will be a choice of tastings, including wines from Mendoza in Argentina, which is the guest region. 9 November. The Samaniego in Wine producers present a food and wine pairing event with eight wines from the bodegas based in this Rioja Alavesa village, accompanied by dishes prepared by chef Bruno Coelho of the Palacio de Samaniego restaurant. 9 November. Wine shop and bar El Retro on the outskirts of Pamplona (Bardenas Reales, 68, Sarriguren) presents a tasting of five wines accompanied by pintxos made with different aromatic plants. Details will be published a few days before the tasting. Time: 12:00 - 14:00 Price: €25

9 November. Tasta Porrera is a wine and food fair organised by the Porrera Winery Association and the town council. During the day visitors will be able to taste wines from the two dozen wineries in this Priorat village accompanied by local dishes and buy the wines direct from the producer. Time: 11:00 - 15:00 Price: €25 for the wine tasting plus €15 for lunch.

10 November. As part of the Murcia Gastronómica 2024 festival, Pura Cepa wine bar in Murcia (Plaza Cristo del Rescate, 8) hosts Cata a Dos, a blind tasting competition in pairs. Prizes are €100 for the third, €300 for the second and €500 for the first. Price: €40 per couple.

12, 14 and 20 November. Enoteca Barolo in Madrid (Príncipe de Vergara, 211) presents three activities this month. The first will be a tasting of Barolos from the 2020 vintage from renowned producers and led by Juancho Asenjo (12th, €75); the second, on the 21st, is a sparkling wine pairing at the new Taberna Cuzo (Hermosilla, 113) (75 €) and finally a tasting of five wines that have been awarded 100 points: Ester Canale Vigna Rionda 2021, RunRig Torbeck 2016, Casa Castillo Pie Franco 2021, Clos Erasmus 2022 and Amontillado 1905 Pérez Barquero (20th, €140). 13 November. Jonas Tofterup and Fernando Mora, fellow students during their preparation for the Master of Wine, have decided to teach the system that helped them to taste and identify wines with two blind tasting sessions at the Iberian Wine Academy training centre in Malaga. 13, 14, 19, 23 and 28 November. The Coalla shops host the following tastings: in Madrid Bubbles of the World (13th, €85), A Tour of France (23rd, €75) and champagnes by Cédric Moussé (25th, €75). In Oviedo, a cheese and wine tasting entitled ‘ The Other Side of Despeñaperros’ (14th, €45) and ‘The Mousse of Wines’ (28th, €55) whilst in Gijón there will be a wine and cheese tasting on the 19th. All the tastings will be accompanied by snacks with Coalla products. Time: 20:00

14, 16, 21 and 23 November. The wine training centre Lust for Wine in Burgos (Plaza Alonso Martínez, 7A Office 57) presents its programme of wine events this month starting on the 14th with a seminar on South Africa (20:30, €45). On the 16th Pilar Cruces will lead a vermouth session of Te Leo Un Vino at Música y Deportes (Paseo del Espolón, 12:30, €8) while on the 21st she will be at La Pícara Gastroteca (€35) in Aranda de Duero (C. Sta. María, 2) with her presentation on South Africa. Finally, on the 23rd she presents "Vinos y Vinilos: Dime Qué escuchas y te diré qué bebes" (Av. 14 and 23 November. Artean Wines training centre in Bilbao presents a couple of tastings this month at Espacio Pangea (Indautxu Sq.). The first, led by sommelier Javi Calzada, will focus on red txakolis and includes a tasting of the 11 wines currently produced in DO Bizkaiko Txakolina using the Hondarrabi Beltza variety (Time: 18:30-20:30, €40). On the 23rd there will be a five-hour course on sparkling wines, their styles and method of production, as well as a tasting of eight wines. Time: 09:30-14:30 Price: €135

15 November. In partnership with Centro de Arte Hortensia Herrero, which will host a concert by NoVI, the bar and restaurant Entrevins in Valencia (La Paz, 7, 1st floor) presents a dinner paired with champagnes. Time: 20:30 Price: €130 (concert and dinner)

16 November. As part of the mountain film festival in Torelló (Barcelona), there will be a mountain wine showroom where visitors will be able to taste, buy and discover wines from around 20 producers. There will also be tastings led by Ferran Centelles and sommelier and nutritionist Clara Antúnez. Prices from €18

16 November. La Bodega del Tesoro in Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón (La Rioja) presents a new Encuentro entre Vinos with the following Rioja vignerons: Familia Quintana, Alvaro Forcada, Josean Eraso, Quiroga de Pablo, González Ayala and the wines of La Bodega del Tesoro. There will also be tapas, a ham slicer, visits to the centenarian cellar (reservation required) and live music. Time: from 11:30 Price: €50 

18 November. The Madrid edition of Vinos Off the Record will be held at Real Fábrica de Tapices in Madrid with the presence of 52 producers including Fulcro, Verónica Ortega, Barco del Corneta, Sílice Viticultores, Puro Rofe, Etérea Kripan, Muchada Leclapart, Lectores Vinos and Fredi Torres (one of the organisers), Itsasmendi, Anima Mundi, Reta and Valtuille, among others. Time: 11:00-19:00 Tickets: €20 (€25 at the door).

18-19 November. More than 400 exhibitors from 70 producing areas will be present at the XXIV Salón de los Mejores Vinos de España, organised by the Peñín Guide at Pavilion 14 in Ifema Madrid (Campo de las Naciones), where visitors will be able to taste wines that have scored 90 or more points in the Guide, some 2,000 in total. The showroom is rounded off by a programme of tastings and masterclasses from the Campo de Borja, Cava, El Hierro, Rioja and Valencia designations of origin, as well as producers Sogrape and Osborne, the Monastrell association and Spanish Wine Academy. Opening hours 13th: 12:00 to 20:00 and 14th: 11:00 to 15:00.

20 November. The Alicante School of Tasting, Pairing and Sensory Analysis presents a seminar led by Juancho Asenjo and David López Lluc on champagne, with two different approaches to this great style of wine. Time: 9:00 to 14:00 and lunch afterwards. Price: €200

20 November. Tao Platón DipWSET presents at The Wine Studio in Madrid (Jorge Juan, 31) a course on wine defects in which participants will learn about wine from a different perspective. The workshop will address questions such as which alterations are considered acceptable depending on the style of wine or its intensity, and whether Brett is always a defect. Time: 16:00 - 20:00 Price: €239 (VAT included)

20 and 27 November. Tiempos Líquidos wine bar in Burgos (San Gil, 5) presents a couple of tastings this month. The first will be led by Miguel Anxo from A Curva, the most genuine wine tavern in the Pontevedra town of Portonovo, while on the 27th sommelier Diego González, co-owner of Tiempos Líquidos, presents a tasting of Austrian wines. 21 November. Sommelier Iñaki Busto presents a wine and chocolate tasting at Umami Gijón (Av. Rufo Garcia Rendueles, 8) with the following cuvées: Protocolo by Marcos Eguren, Castro Valtuille by Raúl Pérez, Proelio by J Palacios, Altos del Terral Crianza by Paco Casas and Museum Real Reserva Cigales. 21 November. Sommelier Iván Sánchez presents a tasting of eight German wines with dinner at La Cofradía del Renegado in San Vicente de la Sonsierra (La Rioja). Time: 18:30 Price: €90 tasting and dinner. More information and bookings on +34 941 991070

21 November. Wine store Vins Noe in Sant Cugat del Vallés (Av de la Torre Blanca, 3) hosts a blind tasting with four special wines from top producers or very famous areas. Will attendees identify the most expensive bottles with the ones they like the most, or what makes them special? Time: 20:00 - 21:30 Price: €60

22-24 November. Castes, the independent wine fair, holds a new edition in Vilagarcía de Arousa (Pontevedra) with several new activities. In addition to the show with around a hundred national and international producers and the Aula Castes workshops with verticals from iconic wineries, the international team tasting championship will once again be held. Music will be especially important at this edition, with a festival in the Plaza de Peixería with live performances by bands such as Catuxa Salom, Belako, The Agapornis and Depedro, among others. Opening hours: 13:00 - 19:30

25 November. Around 20 producers from Spain, France and Italy will be present at the sixth edition of La Odisea, a Mediterranean showroom held at L'Escaleta restaurant in Cocentaina (Alicante) with producers such as Los Insensatos de la Antehojuela (Montilla) and Meridiano Perdido (Sanlúcar), among others. As well as the showroom, there’s the possibility of having lunch at the restaurant (booking necessary). Price: €45 Opening hours: 10:00-14:00 and 17:00-20:00
