Wine events are starting to pick up a in February, with some interesting tastings specially in El Puerto de Santa María in Cádiz, where top producers from the Sherry Triangle, Castilla-León and Galicia, among other wine regions, will present their wines at Cuatro Gatos Wine Fest, and at restaurant La Cigaleña in Santander, where a bunch of lucky wine lovers will be able to taste old vintages of Bodegas R. López de Heredia.

Kike Ojanguren, gourmet cheese merchant, and Óscar Soneira, from the Hemoglovinum blog, present a cheese and Sherry wine tasting with bottles like Fino Arroyuelo (Primitivo Collantes), Manzanilla Maruja (Bodegas Piñero), Amontillado Callejuela and Cream muy viejo (Bodegas Piñero). 1 February. Rubén Parera (Bodega Finca Parera) will be today at Jovani & Vins (Comte Borrell, 30) in Barcelona presenting the wines he makes at his 20-hectare estate in Sant Llorenç d’Hortons in Alt Penedès. His vines are biodinamically and organically grown. Time: 19:45 Price: €6
2 February. Wine merchant Majuelos Singulares (San Ignacio, 9) in Valladolid holds a tasting of wines from several villages in the region of Cebreros, in northwestern Madrid. The line-up includes Groove 2015 (RuBor Viticultores) from Cebreros, K∏ Amphorae 2015 (Daniel Ramos) from El Tiemblo, Gaznata Finca Mariano 2013 (Don Juan del Águila) from El Barraco, 7 Navas Finca Catalino 2010 (Bodegas del Alto Alberche) from Navaluenga, La Forcípula 2015 (Raúl Calle) from Navarredondilla and Hoyando 2014 (Juan Luis Beltrán) from Hoyo de Pinares. Until 5 February. Over 400 restaurants, cocktail bars, cooking schools, gourmet shops, cultural centres, art galleries and museums in Madrid will take part in Gastrofestival 2017, an event aimed at promoting the city's gastronomy. There will be several opportunities to taste wine such as pinchos and Rioja wine in many bars across the city, Ribera del Duero wine tastings at La Vieja Castilla (Chueca), a dinner paired with Sherry wines in A Punto Librería (Chueca), a gastro and wine journey through the permanent collection of the Reina Sofía museum and a Rioja masterclass in Bodega Santa Cecilia (Chamberí).
5 February. Wine tasting school Vináliti in Málaga (Salinas, 3) organizes a winegrowing and winemaking workshop at Bodega La Capuchina. During the workshop, Susana y Emilio, owners of La Capuchina, will lend some rows of vines to participants so they can work them throughout a year and finish making their own wine. Each participant will carry out all the usual routines in the vineyard: winter pruning, removing tips and young leaves, thinning out, harvesting and winery jobs. The idea is that each participant makes a wine with the Denomination of Origin label to take home. Pruning is the first activity on the list. El Mostrador de Vila Viniteca in Madrid (General Díaz Porlier, 45) organizes a tasting of Bierzo wines, an area with a sizable number of young producers making Atlantic, frangrant fruity style wines. Sommelier Ferran Centelles, who has recently published a book called Qué vino con este pato presents, along with Outlook Wine school, a food and wine seminar where he will explain techniques, concepts and trends using theory and practical exercises. 11 February. Nine wineries in Lapuebla de Labarca (Rioja Alavesa) host Uztaberri Eguna, a festive day when producers open their wineries for tastings and guided tours to present their 2016 wines. 15-16 February. Dignifying vignerons is the motto of the II Salón Viña Ibérica in Zaragoza, held within the bi-annual fair Enomaq. 24-25 February. The Experiencia Verema in Valencia starts this year with an inaugural event led by Julio Sáenz, La Rioja Alta winemaker, where he will present a vertical tasting of Viña Ardanza with the following vintages: 1989, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2005 and 2008. Over that day and the next there will be tastings by Ramón Bilbao Group, expert Jordi Melendo on Champagne, a vertical tasting of Grans Muralles by Bodegas Torres, six Garnachas by Vintae and a closing tasting with “great wines from the Duero”. 24-25 February. Over a dozen Rioja producers will present their new vintages during Haro's Wine Carnival which this year is inspired in medieval occupations and is held at the cloister of Hotel Los Agustinos (San Agustín, 2) in Haro. 25 February. Cuatro Gatos Wine Fest is the name chosen by distributor Federico Ferrer to present the wines he sells on his Cuatro Gatos Wine Club website. It is a relaxed and fun event which this year will be held at the bullring in El Puerto de Santa María, in the heart of Sherry Country. Producers such as Germán R. Blanco (Quinta Milú, San Esteban and Casa Aurora), Xabier Sanz (Viña Zorzal), Beatriz Herranz (Barco del Corneta), Charlotte Allen (Almaroja), Xurxo Alba (Albamar), Miguel Montoto (Los Vinos de Miguel - Coto de Gomáriz, Viños de Encostas and Ailalá), Primitivo Collantes, Ramiro Ibáñez (Cota45), WIlly Pérez (Luis Pérez), Pepe Blanco (Viña La Callejuela), Eulogio Pomares (Zárate) and José Crusat (Entre os Ríos) and Verónica Ortega, among others, will be pouring and explaining their wines to wine lovers.
