First of all, many thanks to all those readers who took the time to send us pictures of their summer wine fun. As a token of our appreciation, we will mail out a humble but cute Spanish Wine Lover badge to the best entries.
These are our top three:
1. This is Inma kissing a special bottle of wine called El Novio Perfecto (“the perfect groom”). The picture, taken in Xàtiva (Valencia) in southeastern Spain, put a smile on our faces. It reflects the new trend towards fun and casual labels in Spanish wines aimed to a young audience. This one is an entry-level white produced by Bruno Murciano, a well-known Spanish sommelier based in London, and enterprising Rioja winemaker David Sampedro. The wine comes from Valencia and is a blend of Moscatel and Macabeo.
2. Elena and Carlos sent this shot of their son Mikel at a wine bar in Cape Town (South Africa). They couldn’t help but notice the unmistakeable face of La Gitana which appears on the label of this well-known manzanilla. We really appreciate that they remembered us from so far away and in the midst of the South African winter. Indidentally, the two hemispheres are a blessing for many wine buffs since it enables them to enjoy two harvests per year.
3.The third shot represents happiness in a glass of wine . It was taken by Kathryn from Californian winery Stomping Girl Wines during her vacation in Tossa de Mar in Girona’s Costa Brava (Catalonia). She was enjoying a bottle of white Xarel.lo that she had bought a couple of days earlier in Penedès.
