Bodegas a Pie de Calle - Labastida

The village of Labastida in Rioja Alavesa is hosting ‘Bodegas a Pie de Calle’, a weekend featuring stands where visitors can sample wines from over a dozen local producers, including Remelluri, Tierra, Carlos Sánchez, Manuel Quintero, Área Pequeña and Alain Quintana, amongst others, as well as two guest French wineries. There will also be a couple of tastings: Nacho Jiménez from the distributor Alma Vinos Únicos will present wines from Italy (2nd, 21:00) and single-vineyard wines from Labastida (3rd, 20:30).

Territori Efervescent

Cal Feru restaurant in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia presents a new edition of Territori Efervescent at the Patio de Can Guineu, featuring three wine tastings to showcase the range of sparkling wines produced in Catalonia. The first session will be a tasting of wines from the nine latest Corpinnat wineries (on the 2nd), the second will feature single-varietal Xarel·lo sparkling wines (on the 9th) and, to round off the series, there will be a tasting of aged rosé sparkling wines (on the 19th).

Vijazz Vilafranca

Vilafranca del Penedès welcomes summer with the Vijazz Penedès festival, which combines wine and cava with the best national and international jazz. An exhibition of 25 photographs depicting the natural surroundings of O Luar de Sil – Pago de Capellanes’ project in Valdeorras – which will be on display at Pago de los Capellanes over the coming months. The photographs are the work of photographer Blai Carda.

Summer cinema

Bodegas Franco-Españolas opens the doors of its winery in Logroño for its summer cinema, showing four films in VOSE (original version with Spanish subtitles), preceded by a gastrobar, a wine bar and music. Today’s film is Gremlins, whilst the remaining Thursday screenings in July will be, in this order, Three Men and a Baby (16th), Back to the Future (23rd) and Amanece que no es poco (30 July). The screening will begin at sunset.

A tasting with Juan Antonio Ponce

One of the leading growers in Manchuela, where he farms 35 ha of vineyards with an average age of 50 years, Juan Antonio Ponce and his family practise biodynamic agriculture and use traditional winemaking methods. This tasting will feature some of his current wines, which are vibrant and expressive.

A tasting with Jorge of Montelaguna

Jorge de las Heras is a young winegrower and winemaker from Ribera del Duero who takes a traditional approach to working in the vineyards and at the family winery, having trained in places such as Bierzo, France and New Zealand. Today he will be presenting his wines as part of the Guerrita summer tastings.

A head-to-head wine tasting between Jesús González, owner and sommelier at Taberna La Tana in Granada, and Julián Hermoso, owner of the distributor Sorbito a Sorbito, with Borja Matoses acting as judge.

Sorlut oysters & wine

Sorlut, the French company that has been farming oysters in the cold waters of Charente-Maritime since 1930, will present a selection of oysters to help guests understand how the aging process influences their texture and that hazelnut aftertaste so characteristic of the brand. To accompany the oysters, wines with tension, minerality, and a touch of serious effervescence.

To wrap up the month, Calcáreo has invited Janire Moraza of Bodegas Moraza in San Vicente de la Sonsierra (Rioja). This winery practices organic and biodynamic viticulture, steering clear of gimmicks and trends. The tasting will be accompanied by summer-style finger foods.

Rubvinos

The village council of Rubielos de Mora in Teruel is hosting the fifth edition of Rubvinos, a fair organised by winemaker Juanvi Alcañiz (Rubus), where he will be offering tastings of his wines alongside producers such as Álvaro Loza, Entre Aldeas, Jable de Tao, Mas Doix, Casa Jou, Can Rafols dels Caus, Javi Revert, Dominio del Aguila and international vignerons such as Champagne Guy Méa, Colombera & Garella and Weingut Hirsch. Monday 21st will be a day for industry professionals and will take place at the Ermita de los Mártires, on the outskirts of the village. On that day, there will be buses from Valencia, Teruel and Zaragoza.

A tasting with Viader

Eduard Viader spent 14 years as technical director at Gramona, where he honed his skills in extended ageing, the management of lees and the meticulous analysis of the vineyard. In his current venture, he applies this rigour with a clear aim: to produce sparkling wines of the utmost precision, centred on Xarel·lo and Macabeo. For this tasting, he will be bringing along some of his current Corpinnat wines, whose style is characterised by varietal purity, minimal intervention and extended ageing without losing freshness.

The Master of Wine from Aragon, who heads up Bodegas Frontonio and Cuevas de Arom, is hosting a tasting of his wines.

Ribeira Sacra Festival

Wine and gastronomy will be featured at the Ribeira Sacra Festival, which will include live performances by bands such as Divine Comedy, Sidonie, Baiuca, and Anni B Sweet, among others. The concerts will be complemented by catamaran tours on the Sil River, guided tours, and various wine tastings.

A tasting with Alberto Orte

Armando Guerra and Taberna der Guerrita organise a day trip to El Aljibe in Maína, one of the most interesting wine projects in the Sherry area, despite being relatively unknown. A picnic with a chequered tablecloth and vintage wines from Orte and Bodegas Poniente.

Clarete Battle

The Clarete Battle in San Asensio celebrates its 47th edition, welcoming thousands of people ready to throw thousands of litres of clarete donated by local cooperatives. The festivities begin at 11.00 am with the distribution of small jugs and preñao sandwiches under the arcades of the Town Hall, followed by a parade towards the Barrio de las Bodegas accompanied by a brass band. After the Battle, which begins at 13:00, there will be a tasting of local wines at the Monument to the Grape, followed by parades and paella for all those attending.

Astronomical Observation and Wine Tasting

La Vilella Alta astronomical observatory hosts an experience combining astronomy and wine, featuring guides from the Muntanyes de Prades Astronomical Park and experts from Vinícola del Priorat. The evening will begin with a wine tasting at sunset organised by Vinícola del Priorat, followed by stargazing through telescopes and a guided tour of the constellations and their mythology.

Albariño Wine Fest

The Fiesta del Albariño, which takes place since 1953, is a popular event with pop concerts, dancing parties and circus and magic attractions. Although the fiesta has turned to more leisurely activities away from wine, there is still a chance to taste Albariños in the Professional Wine Tunnel, a tasting room sponsored by the Rías Baixas appellation. The last day of the festival sees the announcement of the winning wine among all those competing.
